Garden preditor

He is a beauty!

This male Sparrowhawk has been visiting my garden on and off for a while. A few weeks ago he posed close to the feeders and very near an empty nest box

last week on the feeder branch

and this evening he took a Greenfinch

this is a stunning bird to have around the place

not too long after he had fed a very large female flew over....  obviously weighing up tomorrows menu.

  3. Kinda' hard to sit by and watch predators around your garden birds -- but it's part of the cycle of life I guess.

  4. Wow! Very cool images. I use to hate hawks...but now I appreciate them. They have a right to eat and are so very beautiful...as your photos show.

  5. I guess he has to eat too but treating a feeder like a free take-away is not quite fair, vermin like mice are also edible . . .
    Great series of shots.

  6. Stunning series. We have a Sparrowhawk that visits our garden very occasionally but not had any views as good as these.
