I love this species and am lucky enough to have at least a few pairs on a stream only 30 minutes away. Easy to watch but usually from a distance, however I caught this one perched on a boulder having a preen in the middle of the river. I was able to sneak up to a reasonable distance and get some lovely action shots. This particular location isn't the easiest of angles as you tend to look down onto the river. It is a heavily wooded area so not much light get through but I have to admit that I sould be quietly pleased with these results.

ReplyDeleteWe used to band the dippers on the Derwent (in Gateshead) - always a good day (if maybe not for the dippers!)
