Male Common Kestrel

Having just been out for a walk around the Cat & Fiddle moorland  I was driving home when I bumped into this fella sat on a wall eating his lunch.

as I double backed round with the car he flew to another wall to finish his meal

and then just chilling

a few hundred yards away I caught up with at least 3 Dippers

Dave, wonderful shots of the beautiful Kestrel!
When I see them, they're usually flying at the speed of sound away from me.

And to catch him with prey is really special!

Terrific shots of the kestrel eating. I have managed to get shots of kestrels in trees and on wires...but NEVER eating.

What a nice series -- beautiful little kestrel. Only you would get these lovely shots and the cute little dippers too AFTER you thought you were through with your birding for the day.

I love the kestrel, especially with the mouse.

Nice Kestrel. Dippers in the UK are much nicer than the Brown Dipper of east Asia.......

What a handsome Kestrel you've found. Great shots. I love the direct on pose.

beautiful images of the Kestrel. I especially like the image with the wired fence and pole on it.

And I love dippers. :)

The kestrel is familiar as are the dippers! We have seen those. Used to have a kestrel visit our yard (when we lived in Oregon)... sometimes to my sorrow as it felt like my feeders were giving him a cafeteria to choose from. But he's a beautiful little raptor (and they have to eat too!).

Dave, we have kestrels out here in our desert, in California, too. I love to see them and hear them! We frequently have one sit up on the telephone pole in our back yard. We also have a pair of Cooper hawks who catch a dove every 3-4 days.
