Garden Moths - 19th May 2014

I am currently utilising my shift pattern to do a week of moth trapping so a few more posts than usual this week. The numbers and species still gradually increasing with the warmer weather, and a  few more new species and a few welcomed returnees:

Last nights full list:

4 x Scalloped Hazel (New garden Record)
1 x Heart and Dart
1 x Pebble Prominent
1 x Flame Shoulder
1 x Clouded Silver
3 x Common Marbled Carpet
1 x Elephant Hawk-moth
3 x Bee Moth
1 x Brindled Pug (I think.... it escaped before I was 100% or could get an image), probably in the partners wardrobe now eating her best dress)
1 x Ochreous Pug
2 x Light Brown Apple Moth
1 x Alder Kitten (New Garden Record)
3 x  Tachystola acroxantha

Alder Kitten

Flame Shoulder

Scalloped Hazel

Elephant Hawk-Moth

Foot Note: Tachystola acroxantha
An adventive species, which was first noted in the UK in 1908, and was probably imported with Australian plants. In recent years it has expanded its range rapidly northwards

Tachystola acroxantha

Fantastic photos Dave and I do love your blog. I think I am going to learn a lot about nature by visiting here. Your header photo is amazing, incredible scenery and a wondrous shot!

Great set of moths - I often plan to do she "lamping" in my back garden, but it never happens.

Cheers - Stewart M - Melbourne

PS: I think you may have linked the wrong post to WBW - it links to this post. I have had a few commercial link put up (i know this does not apply to yours) and I like to keep it just for birds. So, could you edit the link please.

Cheers Stewart, well noticed! Not sure how to edit this from WBW, Can you delete it? Can I delete it?

Thank you all.
Jose, I have a moth trap (they all get releases in the morning un harmed). See here http://www.angleps.com/

It is compulsive once you start.
