Dotterel

An early start to get a new bird...... it is rewarding to drive, see and return home before most of the UK have risen. A juvenile Dotterel had been on the Great Orme See what the Great Orme is for a few days so it was a little risky to travel the 100miles and expect to find it, but the thrill of the chase won out...

A second lap of the headland looking for the correct track to the cairn eventually brought us to a small car park, a few hundred meter walk to the summit and a couple of Twitchers were already on to the bird.

It was hunkered down in a boulder scrape keeping out of the strong wind

I left feeling rather pleased having spent a quiet half hour with this lovely species.

I believe later that day it flew off out to sea, possibly looking for the Alps.... who knows!

Great looking bird - and one I always managed to miss! One day I'll see one!

We get Red and Grey Knot here - they can be a challenge to split.

Great photos and that's certainly a good bird to find. Beautiful plumage patterns and not easy to see down amongst the rocks.

Now, THAT's worth getting up early to see!
It's amazing to think this little fellow may travel 10,000 km between breeding and wintering areas.

Nice work!
