Sooty Shearwater and a scarce Northern Fulmar

Todays RSPB Skua & Shearwater cruise resulted in two highlights.

Firstly getting 3 x Sooty Shearwaters Puffinus griseus, all of which gave really good views while on the water.

Secondly getting a "blue" Northern Fulmar. Fulmarus glacialis glacialis
Blue is actually grey and describes a northerly breeding bird from Arctic waters which is far more common further north.

and a good comparison to the normal white headed Fulmar behind

Red-necked Phalarope

Phalaropus lobatus.

This juvenile bird has been showing well in my home county at Inner Marsh Farm for nearly a week and I decided that it would be foolish to let this one get away, specially as its a lifer too.

A twenty minute walk away also bagged me a new bird for my UK list with a Western Cattle Egret.

Red Legged Shieldbug - Pentatoma rufipes

This wonderful creature was in my moth trap this morning. I spent 10 minutes watching the life of it as it made its way around foliage.
